As part of Creative Collision 2024, our project explored the environmental and creative costs of AI through an interactive installation. Users pedaled a stationary bike to revert AI-generated paintings, like the Mona Lisa, back to their original forms, symbolizing the energy needed to preserve human creativity. Using an Arduino setup, the installation highlighted AI’s impact on originality and sparked discussions on sustainability in digital art.
PEDALING TOWARD ORIGINALITY:
REVERSING AI'S IMPACT THROUGH
HUMAN ENERGY

We began by examining AI’s influence on both the environment and artistic authenticity. Inspired by the idea of ‘making museums personal,’ we developed a concept where user-generated energy would fuel transitions between AI and original paintings. The Arduino and Python setup connected the pedaling motion to visual changes, providing a tangible way to question AI’s role in creativity while emphasizing the physical costs of digital processes.
