The objective was to design a book cover for Cold Cases by Cheyna Roth, focusing on capturing the dark and unresolved themes of real-life investigations. Using typography and minimal visual elements, I aimed to evoke a sense of mystery and crime. Drawing inspiration from gritty textures like worn case files and blood splatters, the design mirrors the investigative nature of cold cases, relying on typography and subtle imagery to communicate the book’s eerie atmosphere.
TYPOGRAPHY MEETS TRUE CRIME:
UNSETTLING VISUALS THROUGH
MINIMALIST DESIGN.
My design approach was inspired by the visual language of crime documentaries, where case files and blood splatter evoke the haunting nature of unresolved cases. The challenge was to create a cover that feels both authentic and visually striking, without overloading the imagery. I used a bold, impactful font for the title and a typewriter-style font for the subtitle to mimic old-school forensic case files. The grunge effects and blood splatter subtly reinforce the themes of crime and investigation, creating a cohesive and atmospheric design that draws readers into the mystery.
